About HN Buddy

Welcome to HN Buddy! This project was born out of a love for Hacker News and a desire to keep up with its insightful discussions without getting overwhelmed.

The core idea is simple: provide a daily, easy-to-digest summary of the top stories and their key comments. Whether you're short on time or just want a curated glance at what the tech world is talking about, HN Buddy aims to be your helpful companion.

It started as a personal tool to scratch an itch – I often found myself diving deep into comment threads, wondering if I was missing out on other interesting developments. By automating the process of gathering and summarizing, I could get a quick overview and decide where to focus my attention.

This project is open-source and self-hostable. You can find the code on GitHub. It leverages the power of AI (currently Gemini 2.5) to generate summaries and is built with modern web technologies like Astro for the frontend and Listmonk for newsletter management.

My hope is that HN Buddy is as useful to you as it is to me. Feel free to explore, fork the code, or even contribute!
