Cool Tech Tools
First up, there's this super neat project called Copyparty. It's basically a way to turn almost *any* device into a file server, super easily. Like, you can just share files without much fuss. Someone in the comments even mentioned it's a single Python file that kinda embeds other Python files inside itself. Pretty clever engineering there!
UK Online Safety & Privacy
Then over in the UK, things are getting pretty spicy with their new Online Safety Act. People are clearly not happy about it, and guess what? VPN use has surged like crazy there. It's wild how quickly people react when they feel their online freedom is being messed with. Someone even made a "Show HN" project called Use Their ID, where you can apparently use your local Member of Parliament's ID for age verification on sites, basically as a form of protest. Talk about a cheeky way to make a point!
Gamer Rage at Payment Processors
Oh, and get this, Visa and Mastercard are apparently getting overwhelmed by gamer fury. Seriously! It's all about censorship, specifically with adult games. Gamers are pushing back hard because these payment companies are trying to dictate what content is allowed on platforms like Steam and Itch.io. Can you believe payment processors are getting into content moderation? Wild, right?
AI Tool Limits
Next, for anyone using AI coding tools, Claude Code just put in weekly rate limits. People are kinda annoyed because it's super hard to know what you're paying for when your access can just get cut off for a whole week after only a few hours of heavy use. Some folks in the comments were saying they don't hit it often, but others are definitely feeling the pinch and calling out the opaque pricing.
Debian's Big Time Fix
Big news for the Linux nerds out there: Debian is finally switching to 64-bit time for pretty much everything. This is basically to fix the "Y2K38 bug" – you know, where the 32-bit time systems would run out in 2038. So, no more "Unix Epochalypse" fears for Debian users, at least for a few billion years! Good on them for getting that sorted.
The Absolute Wildest Thing
And seriously, the craziest one of all: someone actually saved a PNG image to a bird! Yeah, like, an actual living bird. It's a YouTube video explaining how they encoded data into bird calls and then got the bird to "play" it back. It's absolutely bizarre and brilliant at the same time. You gotta watch it, it's mind-blowing.
Alright, that's the gist of it for today. Talk soon!
