Hey buddy,

Man, you gotta hear about some of the wild stuff that popped up on Hacker News from Saturday, July 26, 2025. It was a pretty interesting day for tech and some other crazy news.

Rust on Everything!

First off, remember how we talked about Rust? Well, there's this huge news about Rust now running on pretty much every GPU out there. Like, cross-platform, not just Nvidia anymore. People in the comments were saying it’s a big deal for graphics and stuff, but also how hard it'll be to re-do all the Nvidia-specific libraries like CUDA. And get this, someone even said GPUs might be on "borrowed time" for heavy-duty compute, with things like TPUs winning for machine learning. Wild, right?

Earthquake Caught on Camera!

Okay, this one's insane. They actually got CCTV footage of an earthquake fault moving for the first time ever. Like, you can actually see the ground slip 2.5 meters! People in the comments were nerding out about how property lines would shift and some ancient Swedish land laws. Totally blew my mind.

Copilot Got Rooted!

Remember Copilot, that AI coding assistant? Some security researchers figured out how to "root" it, basically taking control with command injection. It's a bit fuzzy if Microsoft considers it a super dangerous bug or just a "leaky" design for user experience, but still, pretty wild. Someone even called Copilot a "collaborative storytelling session with a text autocomplete system." Ha!

Diamonds Are Forever... Unless They're Lab-Grown

This is a fun one. The natural diamond industry is getting absolutely hammered by lab-grown diamonds. Apparently, the "aura" or special feeling of natural diamonds isn't enough to justify the huge price difference anymore. People were talking about how the whole diamond ring thing is a cultural expectation, especially in the US. Makes you wonder about other "luxury" items, right?

Ageing Accelerates Around 50

Alright, maybe not as fun, but definitely interesting: new research suggests aging really kicks into high gear around age 50, and different organs age at different speeds. The comments were pretty relatable, with people talking about how they feel changes and giving advice on diet and lifestyle. Someone pointed out that aging isn't linear, which makes sense.

Discord's Age Checks Are a Joke

And finally, this one's a bit of a laugh. The UK has these new age verification rules for Discord, and apparently, users are bypassing them by using video game characters for ID. So much for online safety, huh? The comments were going off about how these kinds of laws are usually pretty useless and how hard it is to implement a national ID system.

Anyway, that's the quick rundown! Gotta run, man, talk soon!
